Early Morning Surprise

Been awhile since I blogged, but something happened this morning that is worthy of noting. I discovered that sometimes my humans don’t do a good job of securing the latch on my crate at night.  Denali and I sleep in side-by-side crates in the family room.  And each night someone in the family tells us its bed time, and we go to bed gladly . . . since we know we get a yummy Greenie just before the crate door closes.  Then they drop the sheet down over the crate doors, and it’s lights out.  We love our crates.  We even sleep in them when we go camping.  So secure and private.  My sanctuary.  But sometimes, early in the morning, I wish I could sneak out. This morning, as I leaned against the door, I discovered it wasn’t latched . . .and it opened.  I couldn’t believe it.  I was sooooo happy. I did my happy dance, then I ran outside to do my business, then I trotted upstairs.  I couldn’t wait to wake up mom and show her what a big girl I was to let myself out.  I pushed her bedroom door open, jumped on her bed, and kissed her like crazy.  I even pulled the covers off her, when she tried to cover her face with them.  It took her awhile to wake up and realize it was morning.  Then she asked me how I got out, and I told her, but she didn’t seem all that impressed.  She told me 3 am was too early for human or canine, and she marched me back down stairs to my crate.  After double-checking the latch was secure, she pulled down the sheet and went back upstairs.  I still don’t understand it. I thought she’d be impressed, and glad that she didn’t have to walk all the way down stairs to let me out in the morning.  Oh well.  She finally did . . . a whole three hours later.  But that didn’t stop me from doing my happy dance again.  I just LOVE it when a new day starts . . .even when it’s a do-over.
